As a retrospectively screwed variant, overtec offers the key advantage that the entire parapet wall — or individual parapet segments — can be flexibly installed at a later point in time. This leaves room for material delivery into the building interior. After the interior fit-out is complete, the parapet gaps can be closed.
Depending on building height and building class, different fire protection requirements apply to shaft elements. A distinction is generally made between the fire resistance class (e.g. EI90) and the fire protection class (e.g. A2 or B1). While the overtec panel material is available in A2 and B1, the EI90 fire resistance class is achieved through an on-site build-up.
To achieve EI90 fire resistance, 5 cm of mineral wool is applied on-site. This extends well above the roof deck insulation. If there are cavities within the shaft element, it must be rear-ventilated to reduce condensation. Alternatively, the entire shaft can be filled with mineral wool to eliminate the need for rear ventilation.
Shaft elements on flat roofs can present a large surface area exposed to wind. The structure must withstand occurring loads, regardless of future installations. Structurally, the elements are divided into panel segments that are connected to each other — for example, using perforated plate connections and screws with the overtec oneBit screw approved for the material.
